Admissions
Admissions and Financial Aid
Immaculata Catholic School seeks students from a diversity of backgrounds and does not discriminate based on race, color, national or ethnic origin. All students have rights to the privileges, programs, and activities offered by Immaculata Catholic School.

Through the admissions process, we try to identify students and their families who will benefit from the educational program at Immaculata, seek education in a faith-filled context, and support the Immaculata community. Applicants are required to submit grade reports, school records, and current teacher recommendations. They also take a screening test. The admissions director may choose to call current or former teachers to verify or clarify information. All applicants and families meet with the principal or designate.

As a parochial school, Immaculata gives priority consideration to applicants who are active parishioners* and to siblings of currently enrolled students. Immaculate Conception parishioners are strongly urged and encouraged to submit their completed applications to the school early in order to benefit from parishioner preference.

Priority consideration of applications is given as follows:
  • Siblings of current Immaculata Catholic School students who are active parishioners*
  • Siblings of current Immaculata Catholic School students who are new parishioners or active Catholics in other parishes
  • Siblings of current Immaculata Catholic School students who are non-registered Catholics or non-Catholics
  • Applicants of active parishioners*
  • Applicants of new parishioners or active Catholics in other parishes
  • Applicants who are non-registered Catholics or non-Catholics
*Active Parishioner Status is given to those families registered in the parish for the ten months prior to the receipt of the application and who have shown commitment to the parish and its mission by the stewardship of their time, talent, and treasure. If you have recently moved to Durham, to gain active parishioner status, please provide a letter from your previous pastor indicating your registration and active status in that parish.

Overall Target Grade SizesGrade size for each grade level does not represent the number of openings.
Prekindergarten 36 children (18 per classroom)
Kindergarten 40 children (20 per classroom)
1st Grade - 4th Grade 44 children (22 per classroom)
5th Grade - 8th Grade 48 children (24 per classroom)

Prekindergarten is the entry point for admission into Immaculata. Four-year-olds must be four by October 16 to be considered for admission. Students who are accepted into the prekindergarten class (or, for older children, accepted to a grade K-7 with an opening) are guaranteed continued enrollment through grade 8 or as long as the student and family continue to support the policies of Immaculata and the educational program is found to benefit the student.

Applications deadlines:
  • Applications for prekindergarten students are due December 7, 2007, (after this date we will consider applications on a rolling admissions basis).
  • Applications for siblings of current kindergarten through grade 8 Immaculata students are due January 4, 2008.
  • All other new student applications are reviewed according to the following deadline February 1, 2008.
Applications review procedure:
  • Returning students pre-register in December.
  • Applications for new students are available at the Open House or by request.
  • Applications are reviewed within 30 days of the cut-off-date. Applicants are notified by mail of acceptance, wait list status, prospect status (not screened but application kept on file), or denial. Letters will be mailed no later than:
    • February 15, 2008,
      for prekindergarten through grade 1;
    • March 14, 2008,
      for grades K-8.
  • After February 1, 2008 we will consider applications on a rolling admissions basis. That is, each complete application will be reviewed as received.
Application Fee
All applications must be complete and submitted with a $75 non-refundable fee. (See Application Portfolio for specific instructions.)

School Visitation and Screening
All applicants will be asked to visit their current grade. During this visit the applicant will be screened. A $50 non-refundable screening fee for grades PK-8 is required on the day of the screening. The Director of Admissions will schedule the visit and provide specific details.

Application Review
Each application is reviewed by a committee that includes the director of admissions, a teacher, and a school administrator.

Registration
After receiving notification of acceptance and to enroll in the school, families must complete a registration packet accompanied by a $300 non-refundable registration fee.

Financial Aid
The Immaculate Conception Finance Council, the Immaculata Catholic School Advisory Committee, and the school administration work diligently to maintain a modest tuition. In addition, the school offers some tuition assistance. The Diocese of Raleigh also offers some assistance to families for Catholic school tuition. To apply for tuition assistance from the school and the Diocese, you will fill out only one application, a FACTS Tuition and Grants Assessment. The cost is $20 to apply.
